The Tripwire : “NYC's Shy Child, a two-piece dance/punk type of thing featuring one of the members of Supersystem. They were cool and dancy and fun and one of them plays the key-tar and I'd definitely go see them at some place like the Empty Bottle or the Hideout and shake my ass with a bunch of hipster dance kids”

Metromix LA : Under The Radar #20 : “the duo is currently bigger in the U.K. than here—thanks to opening slots with Hot Chip and Klaxons—but are poised to break it at home, what with the heat of summer and roof parties around the corner.” http://losangeles.metromix.com/music/article/under-the-radar-20/314830/content

UK Press For Noise Won’t Stop:

“Noise Won’t Stop is easily this summer’s funnest record.” Vice UK 10/10

“A breathe of fresh air to the indie-electro party. Bring the noise!” NME 7/10

“Like DFA 1979 produced by the Neptunes.” - The UK Guardian

“Another serious contender” - London Sun

The NME declares, “Shy Child are to Kraftwerk what The White Stripes are to Led Zeppelin!” And here is their story... Nate Smith (Drums) and Pete Cafarella (Vox/Keytar) met at Wesleyan University in the mid-90’s where Nate had invited Pete to join his band. Although Pete was kicked out a few days later the two formed a fast friendship that would eventually lead to the formation of Shy Child once they both had relocated to NYC. Initially the band was pursued when time permitted between their various projects. They recorded their 2004 album, “One With the Sun” with small expectations and an even smaller budget, recording it in Pete’s apartment to a computer with Chris Zane for the price of pizza and beer. It would prove to be just enough…

The band caught the attention of producer Paul Epworth (Kate Nash/Bloc Party/The Rapture) and soon they were in the studio working on new material along with the band’s previous producer, Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav/White Rabbits/Asobi Seksu). The resulting album, “Noise Won’t Stop” bristles with frantic energy and blistering tones leading with the first track “Drop The Phone” and featuring the U.S. debut sonic single, “Astronaut”. And producer/artist extraordinaire SpankRock, lends a his rapping/vocals to the slickest album track “Kick Drum.”

After a US tour with Hot Chip in November of 2006, the band took the plunge and lived as ex-pats in London for the next 8 months. The time abroad began with a full UK tour in support of their old pals Klaxons culminating in 2 sold out dates at Shepard’s Bush Empire in London. And that was just the beginning; over the course of the summer they traversed the Emerald Isle four times and played numerous shows and festivals throughout Europe. The highlights included sets at 02 Wireless, Glastonbury, The Isle of Wight, and an opening slot at Wembley Stadium with Muse. When all was finished the dynamic duo had logged over 100 dates.

In June of 2007 in the UK they appeared on the venerable program, Later With Jools Holland. On the bill with them that night were Sir Paul McCartney and Bjork, which made for some mighty company indeed. Impressed with their unique sound fashion maven Stella McCartney requested the band to be the performers for her segment in the Fashion Rocks TV special that was broadcasted throughout Europe to over 60 million viewers. And a few months later in January 08, while performing as part of Australia’s legendary Big Day Out Festival, they were asked by Bjork to open for her at the Opera House in Sydney.

Now “Noise Won’t Stop” has found it’s home on the esteemed Kill Rock Stars Label and Shy Child are spending 2008 touring the U.S. Be on the look out for this transcendent two-some.

TOKYO POLICE CLUB TOUR SOLD OUT IN NYC, LA, SF, TORONTO AND DEBUT ALBUM ELEPHANT SHELL OUT APRIL 22 ON SADDLE CREEK

Although the release of their first full-length album is still a month away, Tokyo Police Club has started their US tour with a bang, selling out three nights in New York and two in Los Angeles among others.

The furor around the tour and upcoming album isn't a complete surprise; the band's 2006 EP A Lesson In Crime was perhaps the best received 16 minutes of music in recent history. Since then, TPC has toured virtually non-stop, pausing only to release last year's Smith EP and digital-only single "Your English Is Good." Elephant Shell (which will also be released in the UK on May 5th via Memphis Industries) features the single "Tessellate" and "In a Cave," the latter of which was described by Pitchfork as "what these young Canadian dudes do best, barreling forward with a bouncy herky-jerk rhythm, braiding together several strands of ringing guitar, and filling in the spaces with those Day-Glo chords that made 'Nature of the Experiment' such a winner."

Tokyo Police Club was formed in 2005 by David Monks (vocals, bass), Josh Hook (guitar), Graham Wright (keyboards), and Greg Alsop (drums). The complete track listing for Elephant Shell is:

1. Centennial

2. In A Cave
3. Graves
4. Juno
5. Tessellate
6. Sixties Remake
7. The Harrowing Adventures Of...
8. Nursery Academy
9. Your English Is Good

On April 29th, 2008, Brooklyn art-punks Les Savy Fav - probably the best showmen in indie rock - finally release a live album. After The Balls Drop is a fifteen-track document of the band's historic 3:00AM performance at Bowery Ballroom in New York City on January 1st, 2008. Loaded with old Fav standbys, and tracks from last year's raucous return-from-hiatus Let's Stay Friends, the digital-only release is a document of a band that, according to Rolling Stone, has finally "hit its peak." We think they've been peaking for years now, but it's hard to argue with Friends, or the wildfire performances from it included here.

In addition to cannon faves like "Sweat Descends" and recent winners such as "What Would Wolves Do," the album features Tim Harrington and company riffing through renditions of CCR's "Hey Tonight," Nirvana's "Sliver," Misfits' "Astro Zombies" and Pixies' "Debaser." Dream come true, right? April 29, 2008. Finally!

Then, later that month, the band will descend upon the Cali desert for Coachella, before heading to San Fran to re-join The Dodos at the Great American Music Hall.

Jeremy Jay To Release 7” "Alpha Rhythm" B Side: "Moonbeam Window"

Pitchfork Media & Jeremy in Texas http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/49269-sxsw-wednesday-tyler-grisham

The reduction of pop music to it's core attributes of the catchy and the delightful, with a smattering of the fantastic mixed in, and an urbane sense of color and good taste: this is the reputation that Jeremy Jay has earned after releasing just a few 45’s. His debut album A Place Where We Could Go is due in stores May 20, and the world awaits it with baited breath. In the meantime Jeremy Jay offers this slice of his rapidly growing oeuvre, not to be repeated on the much-anticipated LP: "Alpha Rhythm" an infectious dance pop anthem, and "Moonbeam Window", which explores the introverted, fantasy-laden elements of his inner psyche. A simply ravishing combination equally at home on either the dance floor or AM radio. K is happy to release "Alpha Rhythm" and "Moonbeam Window" as the latest volume of our International Pop Underground series of 7" 45 rpm records.

Jeremy Jay, a Californian, has toured the West Coast and ventured as far a field as New York City in the past year. He will performing across the U.S. after the release of A Place Where We Could Go, and has already begun working on his second K album, to be released in January 2009. His most recent release, "Airwalker", also a volume in the International Pop Underground series, was very well received by radio, press and interweb fanzines/logs/journals.

"Every once in a while, a record appears as if from nowhere. The lankiest man-child in pop, 6’3” Jeremy Jay has made a little gem with his Airwalker EP. His simple pop concoctions evoke Joy Division if they had done soundtrack work for John Hughes. Indeed, his songs, like Airwalker’s brilliant cover art, exude a cool that’s been studied. Not by corporate cool-hunters, mind you, but by someone keen to evoke his heroes. Fans of Chromatics or Glass Candy may find solitude here. “Airwalker” is a hit, something akin to Ian Curtis for roller rinks. “We Stay Here” manages to steal a riff from Kraftwerk’s “The Model” while sounding like David Lynch’s dream band in 1983. It’s all very, very simple. Nothing is superfluous. Each song is pared down to it’s most essential elements. “Lunar Camel” continues in this vein, without a chorus in sight. “ - SOMA

TEITUR unveils new album, The Singer.

Teitur returns to the US and Canada on April 22nd, for a coast to coast tour running until the beginning of June.
“The Singer” will be released on Cheap Lullaby Records this spring.

”The airy gossamer arrangements (and) dreamy vocals evoke the reveries of a romantic troubadour musing out loud as he travels the world.”
– The New York Times

“If voices could glow, his would be shimmering somewhere between the stars in his eyes and the cold ground.”
– The Boston Globe

"The early promise (is realized) in this sublimely uplifting collection of songs.” - Music Week

Hear his song – "Catherine The Waitress"

Teitur (tie'tor) is a singular name for a singular man. Hailing from the Faroe Islands, Teitur is an artist whose songs remind you what music can do for the soul. Teitur first came to the attention of the world with the release of his 2003 debut album Poetry & Aeroplanes, which won him rave reviews.

Thousands of fans who were captivated by his inspiring melodies and gentle but finely observed, often wry and quirkily observant lyrics. Since the release of his debut album, he has toured non-stop. Initially playing intimate acoustic shows, he slowly won over bigger and bigger audiences, fleshing out his live performances with a band and sometimes string quartet. Extensive touring included support slots for celebrity fans including Rufus Wainwright, Aimee Mann and John Mayer. “(Poetry and Aeroplanes) may be one of the best albums to come along in the last five years. Music like this is jet fuel on the fire of a broken heart.” (John Mayer, Esquire Magazine.)

In 2006, in between performing at many major European festivals, Teitur started to record his second album. “Stay Under The Stars”, released to great acclaim in Europe and the US and debuting in the Top 10 in Denmark, subsequently going Gold there and earning him the accolade of Best Singer at the Danish Music Awards (Grammies) in March 2007. The album recently was certified Gold in Denmark.

It is his songwriting and specifically a gift for acute empathetic observation that sets Teitur apart, a fact soon recognized by Corinne Bailey Rae who invited him to co-write with her early in her career. One of the songs they wrote together “Choux Pastry Heart” appears on her multi-platinum debut album. “I know some writers make a point about having a complete story: beginning, ending, moral, everything. I just do my best to describe it, and leave the rest up to mystery. I like it open-ended to freeze a moment in time. Sometimes you write it right out of your head, then you see what you were saying when it's finished. Sometimes, at that right place and time, there will be a key that unlocks our feelings,” Teitur said.

In mid 2007, Teitur started to pull together the songs that make up his third album: “The Singer.” "The songs are written over a time-span of one to seven years. They are stories of events and experiences - like drinking beers on a musty hotel floor with mysterious blues musician Chris Whitley, before he died of cancer (Legendary Afterparty), or stories that I have come across in my lifetime..."

In October, Teitur traveled to an island off the coast of Sweden called Gotland with his sound engineer Jonas and arranger Trondur, and recorded the album on a19th century Swedish Princess' estate, normally a summer destination as a hotel, but at this time of year a beautiful, windswept and somewhat deserted piece of tranquility; interrupted only by the various musicians and singers who came to play or sing on the album, who all stayed at the hotel, during their work on the album.

On the cover of the album is a picture of a cartoon figure who stands inside the room of an empty dollhouse. It looks almost like a skeleton and it has no face. The figure is a caricature of "The Singer"

"The Singer" was released in Scandinavia on February 11th. It went straight in the Danish charts at no.6 and went to no.1 on iTunes there in the following week.

For brothers Ryan & Hays Holladay, the craft of songwriting has always been closely linked with that of recording. From their earliest days of musical collaboration in elementary school, they employed computers and tape machines to not only document their songs but to begin sculpting their sound. A sound that could be called a distant relative to pop music. A sound that would later become the musical foundation for The Epochs (pronounced ee-poks).

The two continued to write and record together after moving to New York City. By 2000 they had amassed a sizable collection of recorded material, some of which was included on a self released CD titled 'Ten Billion Light Years of Solitude'.

In Spring 2004, The Epochs, having expanded to include bassist Kevin Smith and drummer Kotchy, began translating the recordings into songs that could be played live. After performing multiple residencies at such New York venues as the Knitting Factory and Nublu, the band decided to relocate to Seattle. For over a year, they called an abandoned 3-story building in downtown their home, out of which they developed their live show and adjusted to recording as a four-piece. Local radio station KEXP began playing the demos they slid under their door which helped The Epochs develop a following and attention from local press.

Since returning to Brooklyn in September of 2006, the band has finished producing their self-titled debut. It is a big, varied sounding record. Ranging from the bombastic electronics on 'Opposite Sides', to the seething orchestration and manipulated guitar of 'Mouths to Feed', to the playful rhythms of 'Giving Tree', it never stops in one place musically long enough for it to be pigeonholed into a category. And it is this restlessness that gives the group its unique sound. However, a consistent thread can be found amongst the genre exploration. The shared vocals of Hays & Ryan, their lyrics and layered harmonies help give this sonically eclectic work its continuity. The record was mixed by Hays Holladay in the Spring of 2007 and is scheduled for release later this year.

Alternative Press (Top 100 bands of 2008) "..While hints of lo-fi indie and post-punk v2.o float about on their debut, the songs catch fire from their own spark. No grungy depression or post-millennial anxiety, just solid tunes.."

Entertainment Weekly “Golden...finds the band melding together indie rock and post-punk on songs like ‘Long Lean Queen,’ a punchy anthem propelled by atonal vocals and persistent percussion. Judging from these four tracks, this young Bear is already exhibiting survival skills.”

Fresh off their critically acclaimed SXSW shows, Brooklyn’s Bear Hands are playing a slew of dates with Ambulance Ltd., Cursive, & Die Die Die! Come and check out the hottest new band that everybody is talking about!

Tell All Your Friends is thrilled to announce the arrival of Bear Hands! Brooklyn’s up and coming indie-rock impresarios bring us the “Golden EP” (December 11th). With titles such as “Sickly Brunette” and “Bad Blood”, this 4-song EP features themes from the ironic and sublime to the punchy and powerful. Bear Hands’ music harkens back to the wit and weariness of the days when Pavement reigned supreme, (think “Box Elder”). Bear Hands have recently performed with MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Ra Ra Riot, & The Honorary Title.

In August 2006, Dylan Rau (vocals/guitar) brought together Ted Feldman (guitar), Val Loper (bass) and TJ Orscher (drums) in a small NYC practice space. The original plan was to flesh out some demos Rau had been working on but each quickly saw and heard the potential for a band; a band that would be unique sounding yet widely accessible.

Focusing on the rhythm and percussion that Orscher and Loper bring, they strive to bring the driving beat to the foreground and to marry it with the contemplative lyrics of Rau and inventive guitar lines of Feldman. This musical creativity combines and combats ideas set forth by pioneers of the rock genre.

The band are already being championed by the NYC underground, indeed they have just been featured as a Great NYC Band You Need To Check Out in L magazine's Music Issue.

Bear Hands have just recorded their debut ep with producer Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Pelican). This 4 song ep, entitled the “Golden ep”, will be released on Freedom In Exile and will be available on: itunes; old school compact disc at fine independent retailers and at their many upcoming live shows; and even older school

RE-ARRANGE US Out May 20th on Barsuk - Mates of State

Their Sasquatch Festival appearance has been confirmed for May 25! Followed by May 28 headline date at Henry Fonda Theater!

Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel, the he and she music factory known as Mates of State, have confirmed the May 2008 release and track listing for their fifth full length album, Re-Arrange Us. They have also confirmed that Mates of State will appear at the Sasquatch Festival Sunday, May 25, followed by a May 28 date at Los Angeles' Henry Fonda Theater, and a full headlining tour and numerous other festival dates to be announced shortly. The tour will mark Mates' first extensive road trip since NPR's This American Life tour last February, where they provided musical interludes between Ira Glass, Dave Eggers, Dan Savage, Sarah Vowell and David Rakoff's readings to 3000+ crowds across the U.S.

Produced by Peter Katis and Mates of State, the track listing for Re-Arrange Us is:

Get Better
Now
My Only Offer
The Re-Arranger
Jigsaw
Blue and Gold Print
Help Help
You Are Free
Great Dane
Lullaby Haze

Re-Arrange Us also features the most complex packaging of any Mates of State release to date. The reversible and multi-layered cover art allows fans to "Re-Arrange" it into no less than eight different configurations.

The packaging of Re-Arrange Us could well be seen as a reflection of the growing complexity of Mates of State's music. While, until recently, Jason and Kori have performed exclusively as a duo, Mates of State have never failed to generate a trademark wall of sound built on dozens of varied voicings of keys, drums, and alternately lushly layered and playfully dueling vocals. On Re-Arrange Us they move beyond these boundaries with additional instrumentation-not to mention a quantum leap in song craft apparent on instantly indelible gems like "Now," "Jigsaw" and "Get Better." Throughout Re-Arrange Us, Kori's piano and the emergence of both Mates' lead vocals from their trademark harmonizing signal the next stage of Mates of State's evolution.
