Dressy Bessy

Elephant Six Originators, Dressy Bessy, Return To Classic Form This Fall With Their Fabulous Fourth LP! Holler And Stomp Out September 30th 2008 On Transdreamer Records! Look Out For Fall Tour!

NPR : “I think that Dressy Bessy is a far more efficient pleasure-machine than Coldplay. If Chris Martin's voice is earnest and thoughtful, Tammy Ealom's tone is every bit as knowledgable about the vagaries of love and lost and so much more varied and witty in its expression."

Rolling Stone : “Denver's Dressy Bessy are devo-tees of the same kind of retropop sound as Apples in Stereo and the New Pornographers, a hook-y, Sixties-derived jangle filtered through a knowing indie-rock sensibility.”

New York, NY – June 30, 2008 – After their critically acclaimed last album, Electrified, Dressy Bessy will release its highly anticipated new album, Holler And Stomp, on September 30th, 2008 via Transdreamer Records. Combining uber-indie sensibilities mixed with bombastic style, the band remains inspirational, hook-laden and upbeat. 13 songs will have you dancing and singing in seconds.

“Personal, as well as impersonal experiences over the past few years have helped inspire my urge to HOLLER and STOMP!” – Tammy Ealom

Driven by vocalist Tammy Ealom and guitarist John Hill (who also moonlights in Apples In Stereo), along with groove-meisters Rob Greene on bass and Craig Gilbert on drums – Dressy Bessy bring a sense of style and uniqueness to the rock world. A full tour will commence in September.

Biography
Tammy Ealom – Vocals/Guitars
John Hill -- Guitars
Rob Greene – Bass
Craig Gilbert -- Drums

Dressy Bessy are about power-pop chords, a dancing rhythm section and the compelling vocals of Tammy Ealom. Her witty lyrics hug the addictive melodies with true style. Backed by guitarist John Hill, whose guitar work helped propel Apples In Stereo to the forefront of the indie rock world and the thundering rhythm section of bassist Rob Greene and drummer Craig Gilbert -- Dressy Bessy have the true spirit of underground rock.

Following extensive touring behind their last album, Electrified, Dressy Bessy needed some well deserved time off. For Tammy this meant getting down to writing a new batch of songs. Tammy's always been a self-proclaimed “melody first” sort of gal and wanted to try her hand at a “beats first” approach, sitting down at a drum kit knocking out groovy beats one drum at a time.

Tammy demoed the songs for HOLLERandSTOMP at home. After about a year of recording she and the band realized that the songs had taken on the organic grass roots sound that Dressy Bessy was originally built upon and decided that these recordings, with proper mixing, additional guitars, bass, drums & lead vocals, would be the actual album tracks.

The band first met Trent Bell (The Flaming Lips) in 2003 while touring with the Starlight Mints, and had talked briefly about having him mix a record. Once they decided to go with the home recordings for this album, it was obvious that Trent should mix it ... and the rest is history!

The results are obvious with infectious and danceable grooves that dominate the album. Every song leads into the next with a driving authority – it’s almost impossible not to move and shake it to these songs.

"Lyrically this album defines MY world. Personal, as well as impersonal experiences over the past few years have helped inspire my urge to HOLLERandSTOMP! all over yo' ass!
Listen up high!" ~ !Tammy Ealom

The Live Experience…
Dressy Bessy are no ordinary band, nor are their fans ordinary. The atmosphere is a non-stop party and the music is relentless. Their compelling live show has left them with loyal and fanatical fans around the world. This band refuses to compromise and continues to push the envelope towards blissful entertainment.

“We rock our hearts out! We try to inspire as much dancing as possible,” comments Ealom.

During their shows, with the lights flashing and the music pounding, people lose themselves in the Dressy Bessy experience. All this is standard fare for a band whose unscripted performances make for an unpredictable and euphoric atmosphere. “We’ll rock the socks off anyone with an hour to spare. Both the band and the fans walk away sweaty and happy,” says Tammy.

History...
Dressy Bessy have enjoyed great success in their hometown of Denver, where the band lives and plays.

"I decided to pick up the guitar in '96 when John Hill loaned me his four track while he was out touring with The Apples In Stereo, and soon I discovered I had a knack for writing songs and the rest is history," says Ealom.

In 1999, Dressy Bessy released Pink Heart, Yellow Moons, which was highly acclaimed and hailed as "virtually perfect and by far, the catchiest indie-pop record of 1999," by The Stranger. Continuing their run of indie-pop ecstacy, 2002's Sound Go Round, saw the band continue to develop its sound. In the spring of 2003, the band released a collection of rarities called Little Music. Later that year, their self-titled release, Dressy Bessy, expanded the band's base into bona fide indie rockstar status. Dressy Bessy has had numerous songs on soundtracks such as The Powerpuff Girls on the Cartoon Network and But I’m A Cheerleader. In 2005, Electrified shed some serious groove-tunes and caught people’s attention when the album was highly praised by NPR.

“We live in a world where upbeat pop, groove, and rock & roll reign supreme. We are just determined to never let anything slow our momentum. We’re always pushing forward, what else is there to do...hopefully in the end, the world will be better place. But you can always find us, just follow the trail of smiles.” says Ealom.

Fans will be all smiles as Dressy Bessy release their most accomplished and infectious effort, HOLLERandSTOMP.

The Walkmen Stream First Single “In The New Year”

The Walkmen Stream First Single “In The New Year”! Fantastic Fourth LP You & Me Out Sept 16th On Gigantic Music! Play Outside Lands Festival August 23rd With Tom Petty, Wilco & Radiohead! August Tour, Rifflandia & Bumbershoot Festivals!

Pitchfork Media : "In the New Year", the first available track from the New York band's forthcoming fourth album, You and Me, is more giving and direct than most Walkmen songs, sending familiar themes-- romance, the new year-- billowing out to grander proportions through the force of the performance. The push-pull between drumless verses and loud, swaying, barstool singalong choruses helps make for one of the best Walkmen tracks since Bows and Arrows' "The Rat".

Click Here To View Entire Line Up For Outside Lands Festival

The music that inspired the Walkmen to compose You and Me follows in a tradition of song writing that goes back to early rock 'n' roll: the intimacy and energy of Elvis Presley's and Buddy Holly's early recordings, and the massive voice and orchestration of Roy Orbison. And it carries on through people like Bob Marley and Randy Newman and on to bands like The Pogues and The Modern Lovers - the sort of songs that are very much a product of their time and place while firmly rooted in tradition. The vocals were performed live right in the room with the full band, and sometimes a horn section too.

With some romance and drama, You and Me harnesses a sense of classic live-band production into meticulously constructed, unique-sounding rock songs. The sound would definitely not be mistaken for old, but it would be impossible to ignore the most timeless influences. You and Me offers a distinctive twist to the“Walkmen” sound of their first three records. Each song shows focus, and an up-beat enthusiasm apparent in all lyrics, music, and performances. It is a long record, clocking in at just under an hour, and it presents a wide range of ideas. The pacing is very important, as the band felt it was essential to set the right tone, and show each song in its proper light.

Writing and recording of You and Me happened over a vibrant and rigorous 2-year period, during which the members of The Walkmen were split between Philadelphia and New York. The band rode China Town busses five days a week to work in two small rehearsal spaces (an old nightclub in Chelsea, New York and a warehouse in Fish Town, Philadelphia) to freeze by the kerosene heater in the winter, and sweat it out in the summer. By the time of the record’s pressing there were over four hundred cast-off 8-track tapes littering both spaces.

The song I Lost You was the first major breakthrough, and inspired many songs to follow. Maroon was teaching himself the viola and trumpet at the time, and the song was the culmination of many 8-track experiments. The new warmth and romance in the music seemed to beg for the same from the lyrics, so the cold and stand-offish tone that had run a-ground in recent years was abandoned for a more personal and real approach. I Lost You’ s strange pacing, and the way in which both the music and the lyrics together pushed towards an Orbison-like crescendo, was the new direction everyone had hoped for. Songs like Red Moon, On the Water, If Only it Were True, and In the New Year were soon to follow.

The album was recorded in two installments - the first at Sweet Tea studios in Oxford, Mississippi (where they had worked on Bows and Arrows) with engineer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Hold Steady, Sonic Youth) and in a couple of sessions in New York's Gigantic Studios (built by Phillip Glass) with engineer Chris Zane (who the boys consider "the best f@#king engineer in the world" and a "f@#king god-send").

You and Me is a solid and complex showcase of inspired songwriting. Romantic and celebratory, this is the sound of The Walkmen returning to classic form.

Gus Black Releases His 5th Full Length Record “Today Is Not The Day...To Fuck With Gus Black” via iTunes Exclusive On Cheap Lullaby Records

In the last century Gus Black has released two records under just the name GUS, so, we don’t want you to get all confused. Maybe you know Gus (Black).

Some things you should know about Gus Black:

May 2008 - Gus was kicked off Fab TV in Berlin for refusing to lip synch seriously...i.e. lip synch with more feeling!!!

April 2008 - Black embarked on a sold out tour of Germany

March 2008 - “Today Is Not The Day…” was released in Europe to much love –Germany’s INTRO magazine called it “one of the most engaging folk/pop records of the year”

Gus has songs in movies and and on TV including his cover of “Don’t Fear the Reaper” was featured in the original "Scream". There are several videos on youtube created by confused fans of his cover of “Don’t Fear The Reaper” that credit his version of the song as being performed by H.I.M. (The faux goth rockstar). When I asked Black about this he laughed” it’s amazing…thank god for retarded H.I.M. fans…they have helped spread my music to more people than I could have done on my own.”

Check it out!

There’s been a lot going on with Rose Hill Drive since their debut release. Brothers Jake (Vox/Bass) and Daniel Sproul (Guitars/Vox) and Nate Barnes (drums) have toured the world and have been honored to play with some of their idols. The boys did a string of dates opening for The Who in 2007 and they were even joined on stage in Chicago by none other than Pete Townshend, who jammed on the Who classic “Young Man Blues” and Rose hill Drive's very own “Raise Your Hands.” Then, Rolling Stone named them "One of the Top 10 Artists to Watch" in 2007. Not only that, Rose Hill Drive has had the honor to share stages with everyone from Wilco to Queens Of The Stone Age -- even Van Halen requested Rose Hill Drive to open for them. The band also performed at a slew of summer festivals including Bonnaroo, Red Rocks, Austin City Limits, the Warped Tour, and London's Hyde Park Calling.

The Legend Of Mugison…

When Tom Waits astutely pointed out that “no dog ever pissed on a moving car” Mugison must have been nodding in bemused agreement.

Impulsively nomadic, creatively restless, Mugi is the kind of post-modern dude that flows with the flux - one of those ants-in-the-pants artists that naturally negates stagnation and actively seeks out new challenges.

His two key albums to date - 2003’s “Lonely Mountain” and 2005’s “Mugimama: Is This Monkey Music?” (released on Matthew Herbert’s Life? and Accidental & IPECAC labels, respectively) are significant snapshots of the Icelander’s maverick style. Delightfully shambolic, they both evince a passion for provocative sonic mischief as well as good old-fashioned songwriting.

Mugi’s endearing DIY ethic (he taught himself everything he knows) allows him to haphazardly hurl everything from glitchy electronica and avant-noise to Bonnie Prince Billy-esque ballads and soaring choruses into his sorcerer’s saucepan. Somehow it all fits together, for he is the Mugician.

In the three years since touring “Mugimama…” he settled in Sudavik, a miniscule fishing village in the remote Westfjords, raised a family, traded his laptop for a flesh-and-blood rock & roll band and set about reinventing himself and his sound. The result? One of the great rock & roll albums of the century.

“I listened to hundreds of CDs,” says the maestro. “I became aware that artists like John Lee Hooker, Hendrix, Screaming Jay, Bowie, Dylan, The Beatles, Aphex Twin, Björk, Sepultura, the Pixies and Tom Waits all had one thing in common: they were all expressing true feelings and there were no compromises.”

“Mugiboogie,” his third official solo release, was recorded in his home studio, which offers views out onto silent, ancient fjords. Mugi put everything he had into the project. He worked 16 hours a day, started drinking and smoking again, and didn’t just flirt with a nervous breakdown but got into bed with one and spent quite a bit of time fighting to get back out.

But the aim - to achieve something classic, something visceral and “beyond the norm” – was ultimately achieved. Click-tracks were foresworn to get that old school standards feel. Songs were played over and over again until they were perfected, exorcised of any superficiality.

“There was to be no time reference, no time frame,” says Mugi. “The lyrics had to be straight to the point and all the songs played with eyes closed and always in a state of emergency. I had to ensure that all pretentiousness was deleted from the songs. All nearly’s, all maybe´s. Every song had to sound like it was the last song I’d play if the world was going down.”

Brimming with emotion and freighted with recognizable musical references, “Mugibogie” is a mind-trip back to yesteryear when music was free from categorization, when gothic guitars towered and scintillated and when you could hear guts being spilled out all over the record.

From opener “Mugiboogie”, with its swirling Hammond, wailing guitar and loping drum rhythms to the foot-tapping blues of “The Pathetic Album” and the grindingly sensual “Jesus Is A Good Name To Moan,” plus a couple of seriously heartfelt ballads, Mugi has crafted a modern classic.

The record has already sold over 10,000 copies in Iceland alone. When it’s released internationally next month, you’ll feel the earth move too.

New York – Following the massive critical and commercial success of Yoko Ono’s ambitious remix collections – YES, I’M A WITCH and OPEN YOUR BOX (MINDTRAIN/Astralwerks) which paired the seminal performer with the 21st century underground -- ONO readies for the digital release of “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE” (THE REMIXES). The new release (available June 1 at Beatport.com and July 1 at the iTunes Music Store) commemorates the 39th anniversary of the world peace anthem's historic June 1, 1969 recording. The song was recorded during John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s infamous week-long “Bed-In For Peace” in Room 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada.

The enduring, landmark song has been re-recorded by ONO as an uplifting, poetic narrative resonating with a contemporary sense of urgency and optimism. The timely release speaks to today’s tumultuous political, social and environmental climate. And with it, Ono --the tireless humanitarian-- offers a poignant and evocative mantra that is a song of hope, inspiration and limitless possibilities in a time of change.

For this important milestone release, MINDTRAIN Records again partners with legendary dance label TWISTED Records. Together they issued ONO’s #1 Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart-toppers “WALKING ON THIN ICE” (The Remixes) and “EVERYMAN / EVERYWOMAN”.

Concurrent with the release of "Give Peace a Chance," MINDTRAIN/TWISTED will also digitally issue the highly sought-after and previously unreleased mixes of ONO’s #1 Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charting single “NO, NO, NO” (THE REMIXES) and #2 charting “YOU’RE THE ONE” (THE REMIXES). “No, No, No” includes superlative reconstructions from international superstars Linus Loves, Tom Novy, Eric Kupper, Friscia and Lamboy, Peter Bailey and more. “You’re The One” (which was the #6 Billboard Dance track of 2007) includes vibrant re-workings by Bimbo Jones, Richard Morel (aka Morel), Friscia and Lamboy, and Claude Le Gache.

Already the Hot Shot Debut and #1 Breakout, The remixes now enter Top 20 (#16 with a bullet) on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart, “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE” (THE REMIXES) will be released as a series of three digital-only, environmentally-friendly “green” singles, the third of which will feature a diverse assemblage of international dance/electronic music innovators, galvanizing the familiar and timeless rallying cry: “All we are saying is GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!

New York Dolls Celebrate 35 Years Of Infamy With “Live At Fillmore East”

New York Dolls Celebrate 35 Years Of Infamy With “Live At Fillmore East” Out This Week On Sony BMG! European Summer Tour/ UK Dates, Wireless & Heatwave Festivals With Morrissey!

PunkNews.com : "I think I can safely say that I owe Morrissey thanks for getting the Dolls to regroup, as this show was incredible, and deserves no less than a 10/10."

New York Dolls announce the release of their brand new unabashed live album. Recorded in December of last year at NYC's Fillmore East, this disc captures ten prime tracks from the reunited Dolls: "Babylon," "Trash," "Jet Boy," "Personality Crisis," "Rainbow Store," "Looking for a Kiss," "Puss 'N' Boots," "Dance Like a Monkey," "Pills," and "Lonely Planet Boy." Its everything you have come love about the Dolls over their giant spanning career, yet still keeps you on your toes and wanting more.

Morrissey recently exclaimed this with a fervor that somehow made his chronologically impossible claims seem plausible. Watching footage of the 'Dolls onstage two years ago at the behest of one of their biggest fans (who was curating the prestigious Meltdown Festival in London) one realized just how vast - and heretofore unsung - their influence truly was. Everyone knows the famous logo: chrome lipstick, scrawling that name across an unseen mirror, but it's more than the great brand. It's not about the androgyny either. Skinny boys were wearing make up long before them. Little Richard. Elvis. It's not even about the music, as the Dolls themselves were always quick to credit 50's R&B numbers or early 60's girl group productions as their own influences. Really, what makes the Dolls so eternal is the attitude - it got into rock's water supply and never left. Kiss, Aerosmith, The Ramones, Blondie, The Sex Pistols, The Damned, Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, Hanoi Rocks, The Strokes, The Libertines and just about any gang of strutting rockers who are convinced that their band could take your band and possibly your whole town in a pretty for pretty, ugly for ugly throwdown. The Dolls, and their disciples win, not just with brawn but with what guitarist Sylvain Sylvain calls "plenty of intellect and plenty of sex."

Thirty five years into their existence (thirty one since they disbanded down in Florida in a haze of smack withdrawal and managerial anarchy), with three men down, they can still take your band, pretty for pretty, ugly for ugly, onstage, and now, with the long (long) awaited follow up to 1974's awesome Too Much, Too Soon, on CD too. "You know how England is," David Johansen quips in his Staten Island drawl, thick as South Ferry sludge, "We made a big noise over there, and we were having so much fun, we decided to keep going." "The phone didn't stop ringing," Sylvain adds, "The kids wanted this. Kids of all ages." An album's worth of brand new New York Dolls compositions, as unlikely as it may have seemed in 2003, was a foregone conclusion after wildly successful festival and live dates that spanned the past two years. They were a reunion when they re-started. Now, with replacement members feeling comfortable stepping into the stack heels of departed legends like Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, and most recently Arthur "Killer" Kane, they're a gang once more. "It won't be very long that we'll be together longer than the original band was," Johansen laughs.

Beck Pre-Releases New Album Modern Guilt

Beck Pre-Releases New Album Modern Guilt
to TouchTunes Network

TouchTunes & LocaModa Enable Beck Fans to Send a Text Message to Find the Nearest Participating TouchTunes Location

TouchTunes Corporation, the largest out-of-home interactive entertainment network, has announced a special preview of Beck's hotly anticipated new album, Modern Guilt, via 10,000 digital jukeboxes at locations nationwide.

Produced by Danger Mouse and Beck, Modern Guilt goes on sale July 8th, but will be playing on TouchTunes digital jukeboxes beginning July 1st. While the song "Chemtrails" is currently streaming on Beck.com and imeem, TouchTunes jukeboxes will be one of the first platforms--and the first jukebox platform--to feature the album in full.

Starting today, Beck fans can text message BECK to 40411 to find the nearest participating TouchTunes digital jukebox location. Beck fans will learn about the promotion through strategically placed ads on Beck's profile pages on select social sites like Facebook, iLike, and MySpace. The text messaging capability is powered by LocaModa, a technology company providing a mobile social platform that connects consumers online and out-of-home.

"The 'Modern Guilt' sound is an homage to 1960s British pop, along with Beck's signature futuristic flair," said Ted Mico, executive vice president, digital, Interscope A&M Geffen. "The TouchTunes interactive network offered us an innovative and exciting way to release Beck's music to a very savvy group of fans. We were especially excited that TouchTunes, along with LocaModa, were able to connect Beck's most committed fans through a viral mobile platform, giving them the opportunity to listen to the album before anyone else."

TouchTunes will further support the promotion through banners and full-screen billboards that will appear during the time a user touches the screen. A custom survey will ask users about their favorite Beck song and which Beck album they love the most. Beck fans will have the option to enter their email address onscreen at any of the 10,000 participating jukebox locations to be added to Beck's mailing list and receive information about ordering the new album.

"Beck fans have been talking for months about his new album, and now, finally, it's available -- on the TouchTunes network," said Ron Greenberg, TouchTunes CMO and senior vice president of digital media. "For Beck especially, we needed to do something both a little different and sophisticated at the same time. By combining interactivity, social networks, and texting from LocaModa for this pre-release on our digital network, we're defining more integrated ways to bring great music to fans."

"An integrated media campaign like this is rapidly becoming essential, particularly in the music industry, where new dynamic approaches are cutting through," commented Steve King, VP sales for LocaModa. "The TouchTunes network reaches millions of fans where they already hang out in the real world, and now TouchTunes and LocaModa together reach them both online and on location. Together we're offering them valuable benefits for being socially active and connected. It's easy to see how both brands and consumers reap the rewards from a program like this."

For more information, please visit Beck.com. Modern Guilt is available July 8 on DGC/Interscope Records.

Ex-Chanteuse From The Anniversary Breaks Away And Delivers Her Divine Debut

DRI Introduces Smoke Rings Deluxe Edition, Featuring Smoke Rings LP + Bonus Remix EP (Part 1) Deluxe Version Will Be Released This October On Range Life Records! Debut Daytrotter Session Out Today and Summer Tour Dates With Conor Oberst & Modest Mouse!

Click Here for Bonus 4 Track Remix EP

Alternative Press Magazine : “Her irony-free delivery and the legimately funky backdrops allow her to pull off her newfound urban attitude better than any white indie-scene lifer should...this stylistic nomad will likely yield the crown by her next release.”

"Adrianne Verhoeven" has spent her music career lending her vocal and keyboard chops to bands like The Anniversary, Art In Manila and Fourth Of July but "Dri", as Adrianne is known to her friends, has spent her 20's seeing the world, falling in and out of love, getting lost in the hazy days and buzzed nights of Lawrence, Kansas and dreaming all the while of stepping out and rocking the mic on her own. Her debut record, "Smoke Rings", is just that - a collection of kisses (and kiss-offs) blown to past and present loves; a swirl of stoned immediacy, of feelings and melodies coming to life in loose perfection.

With a background in everything from opera to emo, from vibes to horns, Dri's record could have gone anywhere. That she found joy in crafted beats and soulful samples is due largely to the talents of a few local Lawrence, Kansas producers who plied her with tracks that she could turn in to treasures. Those producers are rare soul/funk deejay Josh Powers ("Don't Wait", "What's Real"), protools-stylist SayMyName ("Two Are One", "Indria", "Inspiration", "Hot As Hades"), hip hop producer and emcee Nezbeat ("You Know I Tried", "Free Tonight") and electronic composer 1,000,000 Light Years ("Meet Me Out").

For a female musician in the mix since she was 18, Dri has seen and done it all and these songs work through what mattered ("Don't Wait"), what matters ("Two Are One"), what a girl wants ("Indria", "Hot As Hades"), what a girl needs ("Inspiration"). What makes her happy is connecting with the music and as a distillation of her talents and influences, "Smoke Rings" is all Adrianne.

As a sense of her seductiveness, however, "Smoke Rings" is pure Dri.

"Smoke Rings" was recorded in Lawrence, Kansas by Jim Vollentine and mixed in Austin, Texas by Jim Vollentine. Mastered by Howie Weinberg.

The Rabbit Factory Summer Soul Revue Returns To NYC and Chicago To Celebrate Their Two Newest Releases

Fred Mills, HARP (Now Blurt Magazine): “Oxford’s Wiley & the Checkmates, Atlanta’s Herman Hitson and Birmingham’s Ralph Soul Jackson serve up three sets’ worth of the finest and most low-to-the-ground authentic funk and soul I’ve witnessed in ages.”

After two sold out summer soul revue-style shows in 2007, Chicago-based southern music label The Rabbit Factory, Inc. returns with a bigger and better line-up. Not since Atlantic Records foray into the American south or the golden age of soul music at the Apollo Theatre and Chicago’s Regal Theatre has the gritty sound of southern soul appeared up north with such force as with the Rabbit Factory Soul Revue. The two-city vintage “chitlin circuit”-styled bill features classic southern soul artists performing with an eight-piece dance band, Wiley & the Checkmates, from Oxford, MS. These shows are a godsend for many fans of American music.

The Rabbit Factory is record label forged by Chicago DJ and record collector, John Ciba, and NYC industry veteran, Derek Evers, with the intention of preserving archival as well as new, relevant southern music. These upcoming events will celebrate the release of two long-awaited new releases from the label: The Birmingham Sound: The Soul of Neal Hemphill Vol. 2 as well as the new album by Wiley & the Checkmates We Call it Soul. Songs from both albums will be performed live.

The July 6th New York City show will feature the core Rabbit Factory Soul Revue of The Checkmates performing with Herbert Wiley, the Legendary Roscoe Robinson (Blind Boys of Alabama), Ralph ‘Soul’ Jackson (Spooner Oldham/Muscle Shoals) and Hermon Hitson (Jimi Hendrix/Isley Brothers/Joe Tex). This line-up has been receiving rave reviews from its high profile performances at SXSW and the Ponderosa Stomp. The show itself is part of the popular JellyNYC McCarren Park Pool Party series, opening for Ronnie Spector.

he July 12th Chicago date will be outdoors at the Hideout, home to all of the Rabbit Factory’s local events, and features the core Revue as well as Laura Lee (70s woman’s rights soul icon/Al Green’s girlfriend), Harvey Scales (‘Disco Lady’/Milwaukee’s godfather of soul) and other guest appearances by Chicago soul greats. Local support slots are filled by the Adam Fitz Band and up and coming instrumental soul group the Stacks, who were both apart of the sold out Syl Johnson Rabbit Factory show in February 2008. In keeping with the chitlin circuit aesthetic the outdoor stage will be a tractor-trailer and Wallace’s Catfish Corner, West Side institution, will be offering classic soul food.

The Rabbit Factory has pulled out all the stops to create something very special – something you won’t find at your summer blues fest or over-hyped rock festival. It is something refreshing but faintly classic and rooted in a bygone piece of American culture creating an atmosphere beneficial as much to the artists as to the audience.

TOKYO POLICE CLUB ANNOUNCE NEW SHOWS

TOKYO POLICE CLUB ANNOUNCES FALL SHOWS IN NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES! COVER OF RENTALS SONG "FRIENDS OF P" MADE AVAILABLE IN SUPPORT OF LUPUS RESEARCH!

Although Tokyo Police Club is already embarked on a summer itinerary that includes Denmark, Japan, and Australia, the band has begun plotting a fall return to the US. In addition to previously announced appearances at the Monolith and Treasure Island Festivals in September, the band will headline the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on September 18th, and New York's Webster Hall on October 18th.

The band's incessant touring is in support of their debut full length album Elephant Shell, which was released earlier this year by Saddle Creek Records. Elle called the album "a smart, furiously played, sugar-rush debut that sounds like it was inspired by Red Bull benders and unrequited love." The Los Angeles Times seconded that emotion, describing the album as "like being in love for the first time, in musical form - that kind of rush." Men's Health also weighed in, calling Elephant Shell "an aural adrenaline rush, all the way."

Finally, the band is teaming with the Lupus Foundation Of America to raise money for continued research of lupus, an incurable disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans. Tokyo Police Club's cover of The Rentals' song "Friends Of P" is streaming (and available for download if you're clever) at FriendsOfP.org, where visitors can make donations and possibly receive a limited-edition Friends Of P tote bag.

Confirmed US tour dates are below, stay tuned to TokyoPoliceClub.com for further tour announcements.

Dates:
7/24/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Hammer Museum (Indie 103 show)
9/14/08 - Morrison, CO - Monolith Festival @ Red Rocks
9/18/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Henry Fonda Theater
9/20/08 - San Diego, CA - Street Scene Festival

Just Announced Are Opening Dates With Stone Temple Pilots And Black Rebel Motorcycle Club! Tour Dates Below!

Read About It In The Boston Herald

They will be releasing their first single, “Where She was On Monday,” on July 1st and it will be available everywhere digital music is sold. For that first week, the track will be a featured free download from Amazon.com.

Another first, a TAB the Band video for their single. The trio are working with the directing duo directing duo Michael & Miguel. Music fans may know them from their latest TRL fave video for Tokyo Police Club's Tessellate, or from their score for the video game Super Mario Bros.

It sounds like a real band using real instruments recorded in an organic way. On this second release, the guys stretched the spectrum, some songs heavier and some more poppy.

The album's theme is about a girl living in the ritzy outskirts of a big city, messing around with her absentee parents' rich friends, taking trips to the city on her own and living dangerously. The songs take on the perspectives of her, her middle-aged wealthy suitors, and the 'good guy' at her school who laments over her dalliances. Ultimately, it doesn't work out and she finds herself, once again, in the hands of another ne'er-do-well mid-life crisis fellow.

Recorded at the Boneyard in Duxbury, MA, Long Weekend was written, recorded, produced and engineered by brothers Adrian and Tony Perry. The boys also helped mix the album with Kevin Ennis (who also mixed "Pulling Out Just Enough To Win").
