Metric / Buffalo Springfield Video

On January 4th, Metric released the Metric iTunes Session via Metric Music International / Mom + Pop.  This 8-track plus interview project includes stripped down acoustic songs, full band plugged-in songs, songs with a string quartet accompaniment, as well as Metric's cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Expecting to Fly."

"Over the holidays, our talented pal Christopher Mills, who previously created a short film for our song 'Collect Call,' continued the narrative with his gorgeous video for our cover of Neil Young / Buffalo Springfield's 'Expecting to Fly,'" says Emily Haines.

STRFKR Announce Coast To Coast Tour Behind Sophomore Album "Reptilians"

Portland's Starfucker (STRFKR) have announced an extensive US tour in support of their forthcoming albumReptilians, the band's sophomore album, and their first with Polyvinyl.  The four-piece will kick things off in San Francisco the day their album is released, hit SXSW along the way, and end with a bang, performing three release shows in their hometown of Portland.  They'll be touring with label mates Casiokids, as well as Unknown Mortal, Brahms and We All Have Hooks For Hands, among others.

Polyvinyl is offering a limited edition run of 180-gram clear vinyl for Reptilians, and although the release date is not until March 8th, an instant download of the album is available now for all pre-orders through Polyvinyl.

Reptilians focuses primarily on the epic subjects of death and the end of the world, two intertwined subjects at the forefront of songwriter Josh Hodges' mind following the passing of his grandmother.   However, the tone of the record stays out of the doldrums, taking a page from British philosopher Alan Watts (whose lectures are excerpted at various intervals), who proposed death is essential as it lends meaning to life.

Reptilians is decidedly STRFKR's most well-rounded and full-sounding album to date -- a buoyant affair that will somehow have you dancing to songs about death and too busy enjoying it to mind.  With vibrant crescendos, explosive drum beats, and layered melodies, this is truly an album that fuels the enthusiastic, theatrical dance party of a live show STRFKR is known for.

Record Store Day is Saturday April 16th

On Saturday, April 16th, independently owned record stores across the country will once again celebrate the culture of the record store with their customers and friends with RECORD STORE DAY!

The worldwide event, now annual, and in its fourth year, stands as a remarkable testimony to the dedication, not only of the indie record store owner, but also to the artists and fans that have kept this unique and passionate culture going.

Since 2008, participating stores have celebrated Record Store Day, and have been supported by artists, who chimed in with resounding in-store performances, special product and supportive quotes and, perhaps most importantly, the music fans who make it out to their favorite record store and take advantage of all the big day has to offer.

The impact and success of Record Store Day has proven more profound with each passing year, 2010 boasting unprecedented sales figures: the more than 1,400 participating stores worldwide having trumped the previous Saturday by more than 100% with sales of special and exclusive product and merchandise and prompting Chief Organizer Michael Kurtz's very rock n' roll (but very true within context) quote, "Record Store Day is bigger than Christmas!"

Record Store Day 2010 even caught the attention of Saturday Night Live that very evening with Seth Meyers taking a good natured poke at the event on "Weekend Update," not to mention coverage from other worthwhile outlets like NPR, USA TODAY, ROLLING STONE and the ASSOCIATED PRESS, among others.

This year's event will undoubtedly be yet another step up for Record Store Day, and news about special releases, new products, events and more will be coming soon!

For more information on exclusive Record Store Day events, products and participants, visit www.recordstoreday.com.

Record Store Day is managed by the Music Monitor Network and is organized in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale.

Record Store Day takes place annually on the third Saturday of April.

Record Store Day Sponsors:
Crosley Radio, EMI Distribution, Fontana Distribution, Furnace MFG, NARM, RED Distribution, Sony Music, Universal Music Distribution, Vivendi Entertainment, WEA Distribution, and Warner Bros. Records.

We Were One LP - Columboid

Download "Statehoarders"

In these times of digital revolution, darkness and depression We Were One, the debut album by Columboid, is our saviour. Shattering orthodox approaches, their brand of brooding anthems are a cross between the heightened awareness of Nick Cave and the darkly sexy, throbbing keyboards and twisted party-times of TV On The Radio. There's an air of the lost, and unfortunately forgotten, Add N To X as well - an unholy alliance between music and technology. Columboid are forging their own path, creating a soundtrack to the apocalypse. The lyrics echo this - a stream of consciousness that reflect Ryan Hamilton's (Keys,Vocals) abstract approach to writing - open to interpretation at both the birth and death of life itself. If 2011 does welcome the end of the world, I know what I'll be listening to as we go down - We Were One is the battle cry, a clarion call into the ether offering hope and good times. That's all we can ask for. -- Rich Hughes

Darwin Deez Shares TWO New Video

Watch Darwin’s “Radar Detector” Video HERE, and
Watch the Students of P.S. 217’s Version HERE!

Download the Javelin remix of “Bad Day” HERE!

There’s never a dull moment in the life of Darwin Deez- the brilliantly refreshing pop star is releasing his self-titled debut album in the U.S. on February 22nd, along with his “Bad Day” single dropping on January 18th. Today, Darwin kicks off an extensive North American tour in Boston, along with Fol Chen and Friends in tow as support. To celebrate, we’re excited to share not one, but two new videos for his track “Radar Detector.”

The first, directed by Ace Norton, features Darwin floating through space, showcasing his fancy footwork, and basically being himself (aka hilarious). The second video is equally amazing (and irresistably cute!). It features a group of 4th graders from P.S. 217 here in New York City lip-synching to the track, and working out their own "Radar Detector" dance moves. You gotta see it to believe it!

Darwin is a singularly brilliant, hilarious, complex, entertaining individual, and writes songs that will make you want to bust out your dancing shoes while also touching that raw, emotional nerve in your body. He is everything a pop star should be and so rarely is. If he’s heading your way on this tour, don’t miss out- you’ll thank yourself later!

"Gang Of Four prove they can rock as hard as any of today's indie darlings," raves BlackbookMagazine. "Their sonic power is in full effect throughout [c o n t e n t's] 11 songs, which pair King's fierce yet plaintive vocals with growling guitars, gut-thumping bass lines and drumbeats, that dare you to thrash your hotel room." Nylon applauds the new album for "boasting all the pent-up urgency that marked them as something special back in 1979; it's sinuous and nervy, and the songs jerk like electric shocks."
