L.A. based singer-songwriter Kallish releases The Nerve LP

“I grew up in California, but Phoenix raised me” Kallish says referring to the move to Arizona when he was eighteen. It was there that he stayed inside for the better part of year discovering the greats- from the eerie ballads of the Smithsonian folk compilations to the genre bending of the Pixies. He taught himself to play guitar and practiced singing in his closet so no one could hear.

Kallish fronted a rock outfit in his adopted home that garnered local press and a solid following but eventually became tired of the band dynamic. He bowed out his obligations and began recording demos of solo songs that he had been working on. The tracks eventually became a limited run EP sold at shows but it was never given a proper release.

Restlessness and a precarious romance in its final throws sent Kallish for an extended stay in California with the intention of returning back to Phoenix. However, hearts and memories fade and he never looked back. In the end, it made all the difference.

In Los Angeles, Kallish hooked up with engineer Alek Edmonds (Against Me, Jacks Mannequin) and began recording his full length album "The Nerve LP." The album is cohesive in its simple elegance and organic approach with the occasional drum and bass providing structure. The tracks on the album were recorded in one or two takes, offering a raw and honest performance. Lyrically the record explores themes of longing and guilt. From the spaghetti western inspired opener "Conscience" to the staggering honesty of "Nerve", Kallish has tested his boundaries to the limits and in doing so has arrived in a place free from pre-existing forms or epithets.
