Oh No Oh My may have lost the exclamation marks in their name, but never their sense of adventure, or down-home good nature. So, it should come as no surprise to hear that the band has left no musical stone unturned in putting together their latest ep, ‘Dmitrij Dmitrij.’ They recorded marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, and timpani parts in the local middle school’s band room; friends chipped in with trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and cello parts, proving the old adage that sometimes it does take a whole village… The music itself reflects how much fun the band had in recording it, making ‘Dmitrij Dmitrij’ a party record in the most wholesome and cooperative sense.
Hailing from Austin, TX, Oh No Oh My have always been resourceful. They started out in a converted garage making songs for their parents and friends. Their self-promotion efforts consisted of sending one track to Music for Robots. The song, ‘Walk In The Park,’ was subsequently posted and lauded by influential blogs like Gorilla Vs. Bear, You Ain’t No Picasso, I Guess I’m Floating, among hundreds of others, and had a prominent placement in Showtimes’ Weeds. The band suddenly found themselves topping blog charts, and opening for the likes of the Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley. Their first self-released record even charted as Insound.com’s #8 best seller that year (2006). The following year and a half saw them touring back and forth across America with Mew and Au Revoir Simone in support of their ‘Between The Devil And The Sea’ EP. Given this success, most people are surprised to find out that the band is still relatively young. With a median age of 21, Oh No Oh My has come a long way in a short amount of time thanks to their feel-good music, the support of their friends, their families, and of course, their fans.
In keeping with the spirit of spreading good vibes and paying it forward, this past week, the band sent out download codes for the ‘Dmitrij Dmitrij’ EP to hundreds of fans who purchased their $1.50 demo CD-R or pre-ordered their LP in 2005 and early 2006, getting it to the fans before anyone else. It will be available digitally on iTunes, Amazon Mp3, Emusic, and many other digital retailers. Digipak and vinyl copies will be available at live shows with a physical release slated for 2009. The band will be selling a limited edition package with a copy on vinyl, a code to download the digital version, a set of 3 pins and a chance to be the first to hear LP #2, also coming next year.
Amazon.com - 'This Austin trio delivers an assortment of catchy pop melodies with a wholesome and somewhat quirky charm. Songs chock full of sunshine, wit, and feel-good energy, which translates into lively, interactive performances that'll get your head bobbing and hands clapping.'
