After spending the summer abroad, Sylvie perform songs from her heavenly album, last years “Translations”. “Translations” was produced by produced by Sylvie and Richard Swift-- as was her debut release “Tangos and Tantrums”.

Under the Radar: “This cocktail party friendly sophomore effort from expat Sylvie Lewis is equal parts Alison Kraus and Doris Day, with the vocal timbre of recalling the former and the old fashioned charm of the latter. “Just You” and “Cheap Isn't Free” show off Lewis’s low-key style, tinged with jazz and Americana to create gentle pop lullabies”

Sylvie has been working with the L'orchestra di Piazza Vittorio in Rome- the world music orchestra of immigrants- who were featured in the documentary of the same name in last years Tribeca Film Festival. Together they are creating an interpretation of " The Magic Flute" by Mozart which will debut at the Lyon Opera Festival in France. Sylvie will be paying the part of Pamina.

8.23- The Troubador- Los Angeles, CA

Tracklisting Announced For TankFarm Future Sounds #32

The kind folks at Future Sounds and TankFarm are proud to present to you Tankfarm Future Sounds 32, the latest installment in the compilation series introducing your new favorite artists.

Here is the tracklisting, with some insight from Future Sounds head honcho, Larry Little:

1. LEMON SUN – WANNA HAVE YOU
Coming out growling like THE STONES’ “Bitch”, Los Angeles’ LEMON SUN have just completed a full-length with Dave Schiffman that’s a thrilling ride. A five-piece with dueling guitars and a classic frontman, a la Mick/Robert/Roger. Management: Larry Little. Legal: Michelle Jubelirer. NEEDS: Booking. LEMON SUN – NEW ALBUM TBD – UNSIGNED

2. THE ETTES – CROWN OF AGE
Los Angeles’ THE ETTES went from unsigned to snapped up since arrival of this amazing CD by Take Root Records, with the North American CD release date on September 9th. Recorded at the famed Toerag Studios, ‘Look At Life Again Soon’ will appeal to any fan of THE KILLS or THE DUKE SPIRIT. Management: John O’Malley. NEEDS: Booking. Legal. THE ETTES – LOOK AT LIFE AGAIN SOON – TAKE ROOT RECORDS

3. MAGIC WANDS – BLACK MAGIC
The Nashville duo, MAGIC WANDS, are still performing tricks to gain attention in the homeland, but the Brits are already taken by their strange magic. Booked for Glastonbury and Wireless Festivals, this track’s appeal doesn’t take a crystal ball to figure out. Management: Simon Bobbett. Booking: Russell Warby/Dave Kaplan. ASCAP. MAGIC WANDS – DEMOS – UNSIGNED

4. CREATURE – BRIGITTE BARDOT
Mere teenagers from Canada, CREATURE scared up plenty of attention at SXSW and are at work building a monster. ‘Brigitte Bardot’ goes from TOM TOM CLUB to NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB to flashes of SLY & THE FAMILY STONE. A party track with more curves than Brigitte Bardot. Management: Gourmet Délice, Bonsound. CREATURE – DEMOS – UNSIGNED

5. THE BLOOMS – WHITE WALLS
Some of the most exciting new music springs up from the strangest places, case in point with THE BLOOMS from Tulsa, Oklahoma. You’d swear they channel directly from Freddie and Brian with this QUEEN-tastic track. Legal: Dave & Steve Bird. BMI. NEEDS: Management, booking. THE BLOOMS – DEMOS – UNSIGNED

6. CHRISTOPHER DENNY – TIME
Step back into time, our music icons all possessed undeniable talent, whether it was Ray Charles or Johnny Cash. No hiding behind fashion or Pro Tools. CHRISTOPHER DENNY and his band, the OLD SOLES, are as Arkansas as Arkansas can be & Denny contains a voice that comes along once in 30 years, and could be the long-lost love child of Patsy Cline & Roy Orbison. Booking: Jonathan Adelman, Paradigm. Legal: Reed Hunter. CHRISTOPHER DENNY & THE OLD SOLES – AGE OLD HUNGER – 2:59 RECORDS

7. MY PET SADDLE – IL FAIT BEAU
Sounding like DYLAN’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ era, Fullerton, California’s MY PET SADDLE provide us with a full-on jamboree in ‘Ill Fait Beau’. Live they are reckless drivers, swerving and falling all over the place in true bohemian glory, minus the patchouli but plenty of funk. NEEDS: Management, legal, booking. No PRO. MY PET SADDLE – EP – UNSIGNED

8. PORT O’BRIEN – I WOKE UP TODAY
Oakland’s PORT O’BRIEN may be sitting by the dock in the Bay area, but their ship has already launched in the UK/Europe (City Slang) and in Australia/NZ (Dew Process). They’ve toured with Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Rogue Wave, and Nada Surf, and need a deal at home. They have the fire and conviction of THE ARCADE FIRE, and are confirmed for the Monolith Festival. Manager: Chrisian Stavros/Bryna Gootkind. Booking: Jackie Nalpant, Paradigm. Rob Challice, CODA, UK. Legal: Brian McPhereson. BMI PORT O’BRIEN – ALL WE COULD DO WAS SING – UNSIGNED IN US

9. THE YELLING – BLOOD ON THE STEPS
Turn this one up to piss off your parents. Los Angeles act, THE YELLING are new on the scene but quickly getting interest. The banshee-like vocals from Nathaniel Cox recall ROBERT PLANT, and the guitar work of Robert Davis is one stop off from commanding. This band screams ENORMOUS potential. Manager: Mike Soens. NEEDS: Booking. THE YELLING – DEMOS – UNSIGNED

10. THE MUSLIMS – BRIGHT SIDE
San Diego’s THE MUSLIMS bring that kind of garage rock sound that we generally reserve for THE STROKES to the party. Every track on this self-released disc could’ve been selected to make the playlist this month, and this one should bear warning that another Casablancas sounding frontman could have a hit with a song about a “Brightside”. THE MUSLIMS – THE MUSLIMS – UNSIGNED

11. THE MORNING BENDERS – WAITING FOR A WAR
They say nice guys finish last, but the exception comes from Oakland. THE MORNING BENDERS are off to a quick and fortunate start, doing the full NA tour with THE KOOKS and signing to +1 Records. Compared often to THE SHINS and LITTLE ONES, live it’s all about the charm of frontman Chris Chu. Management: Jonny Kaps Booking: Heather Kolker, Paradigm. THE MORNING BENDERS – TALKING THROUGH TIN CANS - +1 Records

12. THE BOTTICELLIS – THE REVIEWER
THE BOTTICELLIS are the surf/pop wing of the SEA IN THE SAND collective, which also includes the Raga-Psych project Cotillion and folk duo Kuma/Koshka. One part San Francisco hippie, one part pure power pop, fans of BIG STAR should review the debut LP, Old Home Movies. Highly recommended. Booking: Chris Faville, Mongrel. Legal: Paul Sommerstein. SEASAC. NEEDS: Management. THE BOTTICELLIS – OLD HOME MOVIES – ANTENNA FARM RECORDS

13. THE ROSEWOOD THIEVES – SILVER GUN
New York’s THE ROSEWOOD THIEVES made their first strike on TVT Records, but now have dusted off and moved on without a label with a string of new songs that will steal your hearts. ‘Silver Gun’ has a JOHN LENNON familiarity to it and they back it up with a captivating live show worth catching. Legal: Ted Harris. BMI. NEEDS: Booking, management THE ROSEWOOD THIEVES – NEW SONGS – UNSIGNED

14. THE MUMLERS – SHAKE THAT MEDICATION
Nope, this track isn’t a JIMMY SMITH track or from 1964, it’s live and alive in 2008 by a 19-year-old white kid from San Jose named Will Sprout. Part New Orleans groove, part STAX, THE MUMLERS blend BOOKER T with LITTLE BARRIE. Again, great music bubbles up from unique places. Legal: A-Train Entertainment. BMI. NEEDS: Booking, management. THE MUMLERS – THICKETS & STICHES – GALAXIA RECORDS

15. SOCIETY OF ROCKETS – TIME
SOCIETY OF ROCKETS, the San Francisco psychedelic band closes out the disc with a page out of the AL GREEN’s songbook with ‘Time’. Releasing “Our Paths Related” on vinyl on their own vanity label, the album includes everything from way-out guitars to groovy horns. This track was made for a sunny Sunday afternoon, a Frisbee and some BBQ. ASCAP. NEEDS: Management, booking. SOCIETY OF ROCKETS – OUR PATHS RELATED – UNDERPOP RECORDS.

The Walkmen’s Recent You & Me Surprise Charity Release Has The Music World Buzzing

Last Week, The Walkmen released their new album You & Me with the proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Luca Vasallo.

The Walkmen chose Sloan-Kettering because their friend Luca, who is seven-months-old, is battling AML leukemia. All donations will go to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Centers and The Joy Fund, which helps provide patients with different activities, entertainment and support.

The response from hundreds of music magazines and blogs has been overwhelming and unanimously positive, with many urging people not to steal the critically acclaimed new album.

“We have all witnessed some interesting sales (or non-sales) tactics by artists in the last couple of years, from giving their album away to corporate branding to letting us choose our own price, but this is clearly the best idea we've heard so far... stop being such a jerk all the time and just buy it.” (Fader Magazine)

Exclusively released as part of AmieStreet.com’s "Download to Make A Difference" campaign, You & Me (Gigantic Music) is being sold at a special $5 price only at AmieStreet.com/thewalkmen. For every album purchased, AmieStreet.com will donate $5 to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

As the music industry continues to search for new, digital business models and attempts to curb massive music piracy, this innovative approach has afforded significant sales and engendered an extraordinary outpouring of support.

NPR Names The Dodos Visiter LP In Their Top 2008 LP's Of The Year (So Far)

Visiter, by San Francisco band The Dodos, is their second full length and first for Frenchkiss. Originally formed in 2006 under the moniker Dodobird as a one man acoustic act, Meric Long would gig around SF playing folky guitar with a combination of loops and ambient keyboards. Having already studied West African Ewe drumming, Meric got turned onto country blues fingerpicking and sought to create a band where the drumming could be a center role and help bring out the syncopated rhythms coming out of the acoustic guitar. Through a chance introduction by a roommate, Meric met Santa Cruz transplant Logan Kroeber, who had also been experimenting with drumming, but in the area of progressive metal. Eventually the band changed their name to the Dodos, through constant harrowing from first tourmates Peter and the Wolf, and got a rehearsal studio where they'd spend long hours improvising the music that would become their first record& nbsp; Beware of the Maniacs. The band quit their day jobs as a line cook and a printer and hit the road in Oct. 2006.

The Dodos' principal concept behind Visiter was to reconnect with the energy and intensity of their live show. They decided to return to Type Foundry Studio where Beware of the Maniacs had been recorded. With producer/engineer John Askew back at the helm, they began expounding upon what they had learned since the previous record. The basic drum and guitar takes were recorded live simultaneously with very minimal post production. Type Foundry's warehouse-sized live room led to experimentation with mic placement, capturing a variety of ambient & natural sounds. At one point during tracking, the audible din of a thunderstorm inspired an impromptu horn session between Meric and guest trumpeter, Cory Gray. A small section of this can be heard between the songs "Fools" and "Joe's Waltz" on the record.

Visiter was completely written while on the road from the fall of 2006 to the summer of 2007.

The name of the record came from a drawing a kid did for them when they played for his special education class at Dorsey High in South Central on a road trip down to LA. With all of their time being spent on the road, Meric's lyrics drew heavily from his experiences while touring. They would come home for days at a time, and then leave for a month, always coming and going, which pretty much shaped every relationship the band had during that year.

The Dodos toured in 2007 with Les Savy Fav, Akron/Family, Jennifer Gentle, Wovenhand and Peter and the Wolf. 2008 will bring even more touring for them with stops at the Noise Pop, SXSW and Culture Shock festivals.

Passion Pit Release Debut Single "Sleepyhead"

Passion Pit Release Debut Single "Sleepyhead"/ Play Pop Montreal & Monolith Festivals/ NYC August Pianos Residencies/ "Chuck Of Change" EP Out September 14th On Frenchkiss Records!

Boston's Passion Pit is the brainchild of Michael Angelakos. A songwriter's songwriter drawing from a variety of influences, from the classic pop of Randy Newman to the synth work of Giorgio Moroder.

The Chunk of Change EP was originally put together as a (belated) Valentine's Day present to Angelakos' girlfriend which then prompted him to give it out to friends and fellow students at Emerson College. Angelakos wrote and recorded the entire album by himself and it only hints at what is to come from this extremely talented perfectionist. The production of the recording - brief, sporadic, and explosive - worked towards the development of Angelakos' signature euphoric and blissfully melancholic sound. Frenchkiss Records will reissue the ep this fall with the addition of two bonus tracks "Better Things" and "Sleepyhead" that are already catching the online world on fire. All of this is in preparation for Passion Pit's debut full length coming out in early 2009.

Playing as a five piece live, Passion Pit has already blown away audiences opening up for Death Cab For Cutie, Girl Talk, These New Puritans and more. Also winning the WFNX/Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll as the Best New Local Act of 2008, Passion Pit hopes to bring their soulful dance explosion to your town this fall.

Pitchfork Media : “Sleepyhead’ may not be sleepy, but it's decidedly dreamy, a glistening array of woozy textures that call to mind both the atmospheric twee-scapes of A Sunny Day in Glasgow and the ecstatic seaside fantasias of Air France.”

Pitchfork Media Forkcasts "Sleepyhead"

Wired.com:“The songs are hilarious and cool, somewhat like a frantic mash of Frank Zappa and Flaming Lips with a dose of old Disney musicals for good measure.”

USA Today: “Tired of the same old Lost recaps? A new band called Previously on Lost has come up with a unique way to celebrate the series: Each week they'll post a song on their MySpace page that summarizes the show and offers commentary. It's actually pretty cute and catchy -- especially when they get to the "Cannonball!" interlude."

Previously On Lost is a band of dreamers. Jeff Curtin and Adam Schatz who met in New York City on simple musical terms, but soon felt it was time to up the ante. From the ashes of their fiery collaborations birthed the new pop genre "Recapitulation Rock" and in turn, their band Previously on Lost. They have spent the duration of season four of the hit television show writing and recording weekly songs reflecting on each episode, and have garnered fandom for their music all across the United States, as well as Brazil, Uruguay, Italy and France.

As the season comes to a close, the boys rained rigorously as a seven piece live band to performed their first show at NYC’s Knitting Factory. Introducing the premiere of the "Previously on Lost: the live experience." There were free leis for all in attendance.
