With time off between tours and preparing to record The Willowz fourth album with producer Stuart Sikes, Richie James Follin leader of The Willowz, has assembled a group of  musicians to record his first solo album, BATTLE

Dan Horne from Beachwood Sparks and Mezzanine Owls played pedal steel and acoustic bass, Juan Paul Caballero from Dios Malos played electric bass, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Band of Horses played guitar, organ, and piano. Luke Paquin of Hot Hot Heat played guitar, Loren Humphrey on drums, Christof Certik from Winter Flowers played mandolin and Jennifer Argenti on the violin.

Starting out as a solo project Battle rapidly became a common ground for artistic creation. Richie James Follin has stripped away any imposing force and created a sound that captures the collectives mood. A mood that is free to move without guidelines. A mood that is felt and shared by all.

In the era of "singer songwriter on every block", RJF takes it a step into the future with a nod to the past. The process takes place in Los Angeles, CA. A recording studio in a ranch style house in Echo Park was the backdrop complete with vintage equipment such as plate reverbs and true echoplex audiophilia. A sort of "anti technology" approach not typical in the southern California region with studios in every bedroom, this record nearly adheres to a more campgroundesque-lets-all-play-together at a gathering and hope someone documented the songs. The gathering at Dan Hornes house/ studio took place on Independence Day, 2008 with free range chicken and ribs sizzling on the BBQ. Over the course of the day musicians showed up to put down their contribution to the album.

By days end Dan Horne had recorded 12 songs for Battle.
